As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American military carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a craft operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced growing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
