Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
