Then there were the three critical ball losses, and the two from Josh Allen specifically. An interception in the end zone meaning a nine minute drive produced nothing, and his fourth-quarter dropped ball that Miami turned into seven points just two plays

It was typical 'previous Bills teams' as they hurt themselves in the foot, getting into a deficit on defense and Allen attempting to overcompensate to rescue his squad out of it - not the calm, controlled, balanced Buffalo team we've seen this season

Miami have demonstrated a bit of everything this year so the jury's out on if this is the start of a trend, but for the Bills they'll require an immediate bounce-back in a difficult matchup against the Buccaneers next week as the Patriots are quietly moving into a nice lead at the summit of the American Football Conference East

Regarding the Patriots, they're one of three different eight and two squads in the league, all American Football Conference teams, but could they be the top team?

While you can debate who 'the top team' is technically, the Patriots should be favourites to finish with the best record due to their remaining opponents - which includes just one game against a successful opponent, although a significant contest against Buffalo

Traveling to the Ravens is also tough, but Denver have it even tougher in the AFC West with the Chiefs to face two times, the Chargers (who might also compete for first place but face the same problem) and also the Packers on the schedule

The Indianapolis also face the Kansas City, and have the Seahawks, San Francisco and two games with the 5-4 Jacksonville to face. There's a long way to go but the opportunity is available for a surprise top seed in the AFC

Seattle also lost to San Francisco, with a last-minute score in week one, before losing to the final play of the game against the Buccaneers - so they are truly among the top teams in the league
