Manchester United Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
