Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased England's injury problems when he left the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.

The English side has been without fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs while batting among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed the Adelaide game.
