Shock as Beloved South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, with one opened fire on him before running away.
The reason of the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the site managing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.
Surveillance tape reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but collapsed a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to establish their destination," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a devastating blow."
She urged the community to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that was broadcast on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including private security, offering VIP protection services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in real estate operations and assisted with property reclaimations.

His murder has shocked the country and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the government and various organizations.
A cabinet official remarked he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's killing.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my actions as a minister. He was a shining model of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A public representative stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A industry leader expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will endure".
