Supporters Demand Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are demanding that a individual who jumped a barricade and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, securing a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
