That Gory Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Viewers

Out of every mature animated films I have ever viewed, nothing has stuck with me quite like the terror-laced conclusion of the viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a grim, melancholy and often savage universe that included some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.

Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a desire to push animation further, the filmmaker stated that it was rather a try to express a universal, cross-cultural theme about “the mutual source of each battle.”

That message is conveyed by means of a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously inspired by a famous series of cuddly figures.

Being raised in a culture built around warmongering and the military-industrial complex, many of the bears are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, thanks to a religious scripture that claims the bears they used to be masters of the woodland, until these creatures expelled them.

A few have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , would rather try out narcotics or fornicate outdoors.

In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals show genitals , obvious urges.

For a particular particularly cruel, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the battle with unicorns transforms into a path to power — and specifically to authority above his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.

This bear is a bully and an apparent sociopath , and when horror dominates his unit and takes his comrades individually, he grabs more and more control personally, in increasingly violent, destructive ways.

Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, as a growing, harmful creature in their woods.

“In the early stages, it seems like a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it turns into a more intense and melancholic movie. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”

Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like among the playful features from a renowned animator, which find a mischievous joy in letting cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.

Subsequently it evolves into closer to a darker work from that artist, including ever more graphic violence , a noticeable relation to the real suffering of battle.

In the finale, it is an outright extreme drama bloodbath.

The horror that makes the film an ideal spooky-season viewing starts well before than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of intense movies who desire to watch a film they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and can endure a narrative that offers absolutely no punches.

View it in a dark room without any distractions, and the finale will crawl under your skin and linger.
