The President Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Mourners assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” the principal, the principal of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event caused the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and halt granting visas to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
